Mobile SEO Penalties. Do you Redirect Properly?

Did you know Google has guidelines for mobile websites and a list of common configuration mistakes?  In fact, if you do not follow the guidelines, you risk being penalized in search.

Big Picture

All mobile sites should allow for proper website traffic to flow into sub-pages.  If your mobile visitors just redirect into your home page, then Google considers your website to be faulty and may penalize it in the rankings. See Google Blog and Recommendations for mobile sites.

Common Configuration Mistakes:

  1. Unplayable Videos
  2. Faulty Redirects
  3. Smartphone Only 404s
  4. App Download that Disrupt
  5. Irrelevant Cross Linking
  6. Page Speed
