Now Hiring – Web Development Intern
Who We Are
PaperStreet creates new websites and revitalizes aging ones. In addition to creating websites that are engaging, we also have a knack for getting results. PaperStreet has been designing websites since 2001 and has produced over 2,500 custom websites.
Internship Snapshot
- Part-time, remote; we’ll work with your school schedule.
- Work primarily within standard business hours (9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET).
- Collaborate daily with our dev team and gain hands-on experience in a real design-firm environment.
- Potential pathway to a full-time role upon graduation or internship completion.
Role Overview
You’ll assist multiple members of the Development team with technical tasks across new and existing projects. Work ranges from documentation/content entry to code edits for client sites.
Typical responsibilities:
- Implement front-end changes (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) and minor PHP edits in existing codebases.
- Build and refine responsive layouts; ensure cross-browser and cross-device consistency.
- Set up and update CMSs (primarily WordPress); handle data/content entry with precision.
- Assist the Support and Content teams with website updates and quality checks.
- Use Git for version control and follow a lightweight PR/code-review process.
- Monitor and improve accessibility (WCAG), performance (Core Web Vitals), and SEO fundamentals.
- Document changes clearly so others can reproduce and maintain your work.
How You’ll Use AI
We use AI to accelerate work—not to replace solid engineering judgment.
- Draft boilerplate code, tests, and documentation—then review and refine outputs for accuracy.
- Generate test data and edge-case scenarios for QA.
- Summarize tickets/specs and propose implementation approaches.
- Automate repetitive tasks (linters, scripts, code mods) while upholding privacy and security guidelines.
What You’ll Learn
- Modern front-end stacks/patterns
- Working with APIs (REST/JSON; GraphQL exposure a plus) and data-fetching patterns.
- CI/CD basics (e.g., GitHub Actions) and disciplined Git practices.
- Professional collaboration: tickets, stand-ups, code reviews, and release hygiene.
Required Qualifications
- Current student pursuing a B.S./B.A. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field at your university
- Knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript; comfort editing existing code.
- Familiarity with a code editor/IDE and the command line (VS Code or Cursor preferred).
- Experience with Git (branching, commits, pull requests).
- Detail-obsessed, organized, and collaborative—able to juggle multiple projects across industries.
- Proficiency using AI coding assistants responsibly
Preferred / Nice to Have
- WordPress development (themes/plugins) or other CMSs.
- Basic PHP ability to read and modify simple backend code.
- Exposure to React/Vue/Svelte and modern CSS (Tailwind, CSS Modules).
- Accessibility, performance tuning, and Core Web Vitals awareness.
- Testing exposure and debugging via browser devtools.
- Familiarity with design systems, Figma handoff, and basic SEO best practices.
