PaperStreet’s 2024 Team Retreat: Sun, Bonding, and Fresh Ideas in Cancun
Each year, the PaperStreet team looks forward to the annual retreat, and 2024 was no exception. This year, we headed to the vibrant beaches of Cancun, where nearly the entire company gathered for a perfect mix of work and relaxation. From productive morning sessions to bonding over beachside dinners, this trip offered something for everyone.
As Nancy, our Client Relations Manager, put it: “Yes, the beaches were beautiful, but my favorite part of the trip was simply getting to chat with my colleagues in person, as opposed to our typical virtual conversations.”
Our founder and CEO, Pete, also summed it up well: “The team trip was a success. We had 22 people attend and it was great to see everyone, get feedback, connect, and share new ideas.”
The opportunity to connect in person helped foster new ideas and strengthen bonds that extend beyond our digital interactions. Read on to hear more reflections from our team on this unforgettable trip!
Team Reflections: Memories, Bonding, and Inspiration from PaperStreet’s Cancun Retreat
“It’s always good to see everyone during these company trips! Many of us talk throughout the day, but it is definitely nice to lay eyes on folks and see firsthand that all is well with everyone. Good laughs, good eats, good times — all the best ingredients for a stellar retreat!”
– Adrienne, Monthly Content Manager
“This is my third team trip and I think with each year it just gets better and better. From the cool destinations to the great conversations with the whole team that I would normally have with remote work, I truly look forward to these trips.”
– Stephanie, Graphic Designer
“These trips are so great for our team building. It’s exciting seeing people face to face that I normally wouldn’t and the next time I see them on Slack or in a meeting I get to relive the fond memories of spending time with everyone in a beautiful location!”
– Jen, Graphic Designer
“Meeting outside the office gives teams a chance to break away from the usual routine and helps spark fresh ideas. It’s also a great way to bond and get to know each other better, which can improve teamwork. Plus, a change of scenery can lead to more relaxed, creative conversations that might not happen in a formal office setting.”
– Allison, Content Director
“I enjoy these trips because I get to see everyone face to face instead of virtually. It’s nice to get to work with everyone in one place, then we get to know each other better with our free time. Each year brings new memories and new ideas for PaperStreet.”
– Liz, Bookkeeper
“As a remote employee, it’s always nice to see and interact with the rest of the team. You can only get to know someone a limited amount through video and chat, so that in-person interaction is crucial. Getting to know my teammates in a scenic location with good food (and good drinks) is definitely the highlight of the annual trips.”
– Drew, Digital Advertising Manager
“This was my 2nd team trip and I feel that I got a lot out of this last trip to Cancun. I learned a lot about my fellow coworkers, especially those who I rarely interact with. I thought our team activities in the morning were excellent. They were fun but also very productive. Being able to choose activities and meals at my leisure was also great. The resort itself was great and I can’t wait to see what we decide to do for our next team trip!”
– Kat, PPC Associate
“It is always great to see the team in person. We get to work together to improve the company and get to know everyone better on a personal level. Since we are all fully remote, I find it is crucial to make sure we see each other and foster these relationships to ultimately help improve our team work. Also, it is wonderful to meet our new team members in person. Looking forward to future destinations and memories.”
-David, SEO Manager
“Being together with the team is one of my favorite times of year and being in a tropical setting certainly doesn’t hurt! I’m looking forward to our next team gathering.”
– Alex, Internet Marketing Director | VP
“This was my first PaperStreet trip, and as a new team member, it was great to get to meet everyone and interact with those I work with on a daily basis, as well as those I haven’t had a chance to connect with yet. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking to be the new guy, but everyone was kind and welcoming, and it was wonderful to meet the team and enjoy some time together as both professionals and as people. Looking forward to the next trip!”
– Aaron, SEO Content Manager
“As my first team meetup since the pandemic happened, it was great to connect with new and familiar team members alike. It was great to get to know everyone better and talk with more than those I work closely together with on a daily basis. Look forward to when we all meet again!”
– Sergio, Web Developer
“It is always fun to see everyone, share some laughs, and eat good food at our annual meetups. The weather in Cancun was perfect, the water was pretty, and the staff was super friendly.”
– Kyle, Technical Director
“These few times a year where I get to see the team in person is always wonderful. Eating good food and chatting with the team on these trips has always been a highlight of the year for me.”
– Rob, Web Developer
“The highlight for me was seeing the whole development team. We talk to each other every day on Slack and Zoom but getting to spend time together as a team was great. I’m already looking forward to the next one!”
– Andrew O., Web Director & Vice President
“I wasn’t able to make last year’s team retreat, but I’m really glad I was able to make this one! It was nice to actually see the people I work with everyday in person instead of through Zoom. Looking forward to the next retreat!”
– Andrew D., Web Developer
“After more than 10 years of remote work, having the opportunity to see the faces of who I talk with everyday, it’s something wonderful. That combined with a lovely place and great food and nature create memories for life, and makes our group to grow to always depend on the others”
