3 Important Reminders for Website Launches
In businesses over 20 years, PaperStreet has launched thousands of website. Though each site is a new experience, there are some questions we’ve been asked hundreds of time. Below are three of our most important pointers based on what we’re asked the most.
Password. Passwords. Passwords.
Make sure to have all your passwords on hand. If you have lost a password or are unable to access your account, you may need to contact the support line of whichever website/account you are trying to access.
Items that you may need to access when launching your site include are your Domain Registrar (GoDaddy, Network Solutions), hosting company (WPEngine, Bluehost), Google Analytics, chat services (Ngage), CRMs (Salesforce, Hubspot), Call Tracking software (CallRail), and etc.
Most logins require two-factor authentication for security purposes. You will need to provide access codes either from your phone or email when attempting to login to your account.
Before You Troubleshoot, Clear Your Cache
Caching is when your web browser stores files on your computer, so that the next time you visit the site, it displays quicker and doesn’t have to reload everything again. So for example if you updated an image and the new one is not displaying, you are likely caching.
Make sure to refresh the site a few times if you are not seeing the new website displaying if your new website has launched. Also, you can try a hard refresh as well.
When launching a site, Sometimes (but rarely), depending on your local computer, network, or Internet service provider, you may have cached the old web server address. This means that you will see the old site until your computer, network or ISP refreshes its domain information and directs you to the new web server. If this happens repeatedly please contact your IT team or Internet provider to assist in refreshing your DNS cache. You can also try to reboot your computer and network, as often that helps
The Launch, Itself Can Take Hours
Launching your website will take some time. Factors that can impact the time it takes to launch a site include where the site is hosted, if any records need to be moved (ideally they stay where they are), if any redirects are being added, and if you have all the logins that are needed.
At PaperStreet, when we launch a website, it can take anywhere from 3-7 hours (sometimes longer) depending on the size of the website. We have a dedicated checklist we follow when we launch a site.
