Joe Maus is the Founder of Maus Law Firm, a Fort Lauderdale-based law firm. He is a thought leader, influencer, and successful attorney, representing South Floridians in property damage, car accidents and workers’ compensation for nearly 30 years. Joe joins other leading attorneys in taking part in our Attorney Spotlight Interview Series, which highlights the experiences, successes and tips from our attorney-clients.

Q: Mr. Maus, please tell us about Maus Law Firm. What areas of law do you practice in?

Fort Lauderdale Car Accident Lawyer Joe Maus

Joe Maus, a Fort Lauderdale car accident lawyer, serving South Florida residents with workers’ compensation, personal injury and property damage claims.

Our practice at Maus Law Firm includes business and homeowner property damage claims, car accident and injury claims, and workers’ compensation claims. We also handle other personal injury-related claims for our Fort Lauderdale and South Florida clients.

Q: What is the one thing that makes Maus Law Firm unique and sets it apart from other firms?

Our clients work directly with me – the top leadership at the firm.  We don’t hand your case off to an associate or junior attorney.  Our approach ensures your claim is handled professionally and by an experienced attorney who has litigated claims throughout Florida.

Q: What is the key to being a successful attorney?

Communication with the client, and preparation. Many of our cases have complex legal and factual issues that are not easy to present in court. Speaking with our clients and having them provide as much information as possible about their claims, their personal situations, and how they have been affected by their claim, gives us the ability to be prepared and maximize the value of a claim.

Q: What is the best advice you can give to a young attorney just starting out?

Build your business reputation by returning your client’s phone calls, working hard, and treating every client, defense attorney, judge, paralegal, expert, and secretary with respect – all these will pay dividends to your practice as you become more experienced.

Q: What made you select your particular practice areas as the only claims you’ll handle?

Insurance litigation can be very confusing to someone not familiar with the process, and definitely frustrating, so I enjoy helping clients get through the process and obtaining a fair value on their claim.  The law in these areas is always changing too, so it is challenging to keep up with new laws and cases and use them to benefit your clients.

Q: When building a law practice, what is the one most important thing to keep in mind at all times?

Your clients have many choices when deciding where to take their legal problems. They’ve decided to come to you and deserve to be taken care of as if they are your only clients.

Q: What does it take to become a leader in your practice area?

Experience, reputation, excellent client service, and good results.

Q: What is the most helpful lesson you have learned?

Stay in touch with your clients. Clients want to be kept informed, and they have a right to be kept informed. If you don’t stay in touch with your clients, they won’t know what is going on with their claim, even if you’re doing a good job.

Q: What is your favorite productivity habit or tool?

Reviewing and responding to emails first thing in the morning before the day gets busy.  Email is an easy and quick way to stay in touch with clients to make sure they’re informed, and you’re up to date on things that may be affecting the client.

Q: What is your greatest accomplishment?

Having a new client referred to me by a former client, especially former client’s family members. I have had many clients over the years tell me I am their family attorney, and it makes me proud they would consider me like that.
