Responsive Web Design Ensures Optimal Viewing Experience

In my position as Sales Account Manger for PaperStreet, it has become increasingly clear to me the importance of having a responsive website.

A responsive website will automatically resize to the device being used i.e. any smartphone, tablet, iPad, notebook or desktop. This ensures an optimal viewing experience and ensures easy reading and navigation with minimal resizing, panning and scrolling.

Static websites viewed on mobile devices can cut off important information – like your contact number–and that’s a big marketing no-no.

According to the Pew Research Center, more than 50 percent of all Internet searches are done from mobile devices.

As of January 2014:

  • 90% of American adults have a cell phone
  • 58% of American adults have a smartphone
  • 32% of American adults own an e-reader
  • 42% of American adults own a tablet computer

So, how do people find your website? Chances are that more than 50 percent of people searching the web will be using a mobile device. Like it or not, we are all being dragged along by increasing dependence on technology – especially mobile devices.

Responsive websites are no longer the “future.” They are a necessity in today’s business world. Many, if not most businesses, now depend on the Internet as their primary source of new business. High search engine rankings = more business.

It used to be said that Microsoft was the 800 lb. gorilla.

It could be said now that Google is the 3000 lb. gorilla.

The 3000 lb. gorilla pretty much makes it a necessity that you have a responsive website.
