Firefox 3 and Minor Issues

As web designers, we always love new technology.  Of course, with every upgrade comes some minor issues.  So far, a few of our older sites need some minor tweaks to conform with the new Firefox 3 standards.

1.  Navigation Menus
On one site the padding / margin levels of our CSS menu where very tight to begin with.  Now in Firefox 3 it puts the menu on two lines.  The fix is simply making a few less pixel in paddings, but is a warning to all designers to not push the limits of padding inside a set width.

2.  Background Graphics
More peculiar is on another site the background graphic stops repeating horizontally at 50% of the total width.  Again, a pretty easy fix, but something to watch out for.

We will be fixing today and I am sure more are to come.  We will keep you posted, but all web designers should be checking their sites.

Question: Does PaperStreet have any experience with Blogs?

Sure do! We have launched a lot of blogs and you have several options. The first question any firm should ask is whether you want:

1. An integrated or independent blog?

2. A custom design or template based on your existing design?

Examples of integrated, template blogs are www.paperstreet.com and www.paperstreet.com/blog/. A completely independent web site and blog is more like www.archerlaw.com and www.archerip.com. There are pros and cons to both.

Completely customized designs cost more to setup (similar to a web site), but can be effective to reach a target market that needs special branding. They also offer firms ability to brand different departments uniquely, while keeping the firm overall branding.

Alternatively, you can make a blog look just like your current site and either host it on that site or host it its own domain. This is more cost effective as we do not need to redesign anything, just build the blog. The cost for this is typically $2,500 for design, build, and training. The only other cost is possibly a domain and possibly web hosting.
